Best projects of this Year’s Analytics Excellence Award

Blog Article for General Motors International

The Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) announced the winners of their fourth Annual Analytics Excellence Award, a program created to recognise the work of 1,500 analytics professionals across General Motors. The Analytics Excellence award is considered the most prestigious recognition of its type; recipients earn the award for data analytics projects completed the year prior, and the panel looks for projects that drive meaningful improvements to the company.

“I truly enjoy the significance of this award because it allows us to honor the efforts that our teams make every day," said Iwao Fissillo, GM's chief data & analytics officer. "This was an exciting year. We received 27 project submissions across 16 functions and five different regions. These projects totaled over $750 million in business benefit, which gives us perspective on how committed our teams are to materialising our company's vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.”

While all projects deserve recognition, the Dealer Contact Tool and Future Roads projects are this year's Analytics Excellence Award recipients.

Dealer Contact Tool Winner of Business Intelligence Category

This project came to life to meet GM's field organisations’ needs to develop a plan of action surrounding dealers' performance improvements in their key areas of operations. The Dealer Contact Tool (DCT) automates data from multiple sources and provides a detailed view into critical dealer operations like New Vehicle and Certified Preowned Sales, Lead and Customer Management, Marketing, Profitability, Performance and Service.

Before using DCT, members of the field organisation spent more than 14 hours a week trying to navigate through different data sources. The automation, data analytics and detailed scoring model of the DCT helps them to quickly prepare and implement an action plan to improve dealers’ overall performance that results in an enhanced customer experience.

Future roads Winner of Predictive Analytics Category

Future Roads is a platform that leverages GM's connected vehicle data to provide actionable insights to create and maintain safer, smarter cities. It aims to generate revenue from the untapped public sector while reinforcing our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.

The initial roadmap provides insights in four main areas:

  • Road Safety: identifies crash hot spots and risky road segments. Infrastructure leaders can use this information to plan and execute safety measures to improve roads for drivers.

  • Road Quality and Road Assets Preservation areas: detects infrastructure quality and provides insights to improve road maintenance and operations.

  • Traction & Weather area: provides road-level weather and traction information, and severe weather detection in rural areas

As the team lays this foundational layer, the Future Roads product portfolio will continue to evolve and integrate smart mobility solutions.

The value of Future Roads is enormous, both to GM and to society in general. The team projects that the product will produce over $732 million in revenue by 2030.
